The tragic incident occurred on February 17, 2025, in the Yocalla district, a mountainous region known for its treacherous roads.

According to local authorities, the driver of the bus, which was en route to the city of Potosí, reportedly lost control while navigating a winding mountain pass. Witnesses and officials suspect that excessive speed may have been a contributing factor in the crash. The bus tumbled down the steep slopes, leaving a scene of destruction and heartbreak.

This accident marks the deadliest road tragedy in Bolivia so far this year. The country sees an average of 1,400 road accident-related deaths annually, with many incidents linked to hazardous road conditions, reckless driving, and poorly maintained vehicles. Authorities have urged drivers to exercise extreme caution on Bolivia’s winding roads, especially in high-altitude areas where visibility and control can be severely impacted.

Government officials have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident, and efforts are being made to provide support to the families affected by the disaster. In the wake of this tragedy, calls for improved road safety measures, stricter regulations, and enhanced infrastructure in Bolivia’s mountainous regions are growing louder.

As the nation mourns this heartbreaking loss, local communities have come together to offer aid and comfort to the victims’ families. The government has also pledged to review transportation safety policies to prevent similar incidents in the future.
