U.S. President Donald Trump has criticized the United Kingdom’s policy of housing migrants in hotels. His comments, made to reporters while on Air Force One, were prompted by a question about the UK’s migration situation following his visit to Scotland.
According to reports, Trump expressed frustration that some British citizens who are “working their asses off” are struggling financially, while people who have entered the country illegally are being provided with “the best hotels in the world.” He referenced similar situations in some parts of the United States.
This is not the first time Trump has weighed in on the UK’s migration policies. During his visit, he also met with Prime Minister Keir Starmer and reportedly praised him for taking a strong stance on immigration. The issue of using hotels to house asylum seekers has been a contentious topic in the UK, with recent reports of protests outside some of these facilities and the government announcing a new policy to withdraw support for those who refuse to move to cheaper accommodation.
